Benchmark rates of in-hospital VTE after hips/knees

In this large meta-analysis of 47 trials, pooled rates of in-hospital symptomatic VTE were 1% for knees and 0.5% for hips in patients receiving recommended VTE prophylaxis. These values can be used for “benchmarking” reasonable rates/goals for VTE incidence post-op hips and knees (abstract).
