Colonoscopy complication rates

In this large retrospective cohort of over 18,000 patients who underwent a screening or surveillance colonoscopy, researchers reported the rate of complications at 30 days. GI bleeding requiring hospitalization occurred in 0.16%, diverticulitis requiring hospitalization in 0.02%, perforations in 0.02%. Complications after routine colonoscopy are exceedingly rare (abstract)
