Daily chest xrays in intubated patients

In this trial of 849 intubated patients, they were randomized by ICU to daily versus “on-demand” chest xrays (based on daily exam). The on-demand patients had 32% fewer xrays performed, with no difference in mortality, intubated days, or ICU length of stay. An on-demand strategy for chest xrays in intubated patients can reduce the number of xrays performed with no apparent detriment in outcomes (abstract).
