Fluoroquinolone-resistant neisseria meningitis

In this case series, researchers isolated 4 cases of ciprofloxacin resistant N.meningitidis in the US (from 3 states; California, Minnesota, and North Dakota). A regional health advisory for eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota advises against ciprofloxacin for prophylaxis of close contacts. Otherwise recommendations for prophylaxis with rifampin, ceftriaxone, or ciprofloxacin is unchanged (abstract). Stay tuned.
