Hantavirus warning

The CDC has released an advisory to consider Hantaviral infections in patients with recent exposure to rodents or travel to Yosemite National Park between June-August 2012. Symptoms are non-specific and include fever/chills, cough, headaches, and GI symptoms. Cxray may show bilateral interstitial infiltrates, and the respiratory symptoms may progress quickly to respiratory failure. Treatment is supportive. Dr. Scheurer is a clinical hospitalist and the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, completed her residency at Duke University, and completed her Masters in Clinical Research at the Medical University of South Carolina.
