This large single center analysis of >6500 foley days found 1.5% of foley days results in GU trauma, 1/3 of which led to additional interventions. This is another reason to avoid foley catheters or discontinue them as soon as feasible (abstract)
Dr. Scheurer is a clinical hospitalist and the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine.
