Overdiagnosis of PE

In this large database analysis, after the introduction of CT pulmonary angiography, the incidence of PE increased 81%. Although case fatality rate substantially decreased by 36%, anticoagulation related complications increased 71%. All of these statistics imply significant over-diagnosis, which is consistent with clinical suspicion (abstract)
