PCPs do not utilize public reporting to guide referral decisions

In this survey of PCPs, only about 2/3 were aware of hospital quality reporting at all, and none reported ever using publicly reported quality data to drive decisions about where to refer their patients for hospital care. Dr. Scheurer is a clinical hospitalist and the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine.
