Pre-operative anemia and worse clinical outcomes

This large database analysis of patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery found that pre-operative anemia significantly and independently predicted mortality and morbidity. Although it is not yet clear what to do about it, even mild pre-operative anemia portends a worse peri-operative course than no anemia (abstract)
