In this trial of intubated patients at high risk for VAP, those randomized to enteral lactobacillus BID had a significantly lower rate of VAP (and Cdiff). Use of lactobacillus reduces VAP and Cdiff in intubated patients (abstract)
Dr. Scheurer is a clinical hospitalist and the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine.
