Rates of CT imaging in the ED is substantially rising

In this large retrospective cohort of 1 ED, the rates of CT utilization doubled from 2001 to 2007 (from 51 to 106 per 1,000 patient visits), the highest increase of which was chest CTs. We need to continue to enhance our evidence based criteria for diagnostic testing, given the risk (radiation and contrast exposure) and cost involved (abstract)
