Resource utilization in end-of-life CHF care

In this large cohort of medicare patients with CHF, in the last 6 months of life, 80% were hospitalized and adjusted medical care costs increased by 11% (highest in those with renal disease, COPD, and black race). However, hospice use increased from 19% to 40%, which indicates some improvement in appropriateness of resource use in end-of-life care in patients with CHF (but with continued room for improvement (abstract)
