In this single institution prospective cohort of patients admitted with acute pancreatitis, a 5-variable BISAP score (BUN>25, Age>60, Glasgow coma score<15, systemic inflammatory syndrome, pleural effusion) predicts outcomes. Scores of 3+ were associated with an 18% mortality, and scores <3 were associated with a 1% mortality. Scores of 3+ were also associated with organ failure (OR 7.4), persistent organ failure (OR 12.7), and pancreatic necrosis (OR 3.8). A BISAP score predicts outcomes in patients with acute pancreatitis (abstract)
