The cost of post-op sepsis care

In this retrospective analysis of VA patients who underwent a surgical procedure, 4% of them were complicated by post-op sepsis; the risk-adjusted cost was almost 3 times higher in those with, than those without, post-op sepsis. There is a legitimate financial and quality argument to be made for prevention efforts to reduce post-op sepsis (abstract)
