Toxo hospitalizations dropping

Due to the advent of HAART and toxo prophylaxis strategies, the annual rate of toxo-related hospitalizations has decreased from >10,000 annually (in 1995) to ~3,600 (in 2001), so hospitalists will continue to see fewer cases of CNS toxo over time (abstract)

Dr. Scheurer is a clinical hospitalist and the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, completed her residency at Duke University, and completed her Masters in Clinical Research at the Medical University of South Carolina.
