In this cohort of over 15,000 CT or USG-guided core biopsies (with needle gauges 20+), the incidence of bleeding (requiring transfusion, intervention, or death) was 0.5%. Of note, patients had to have an INR<1.6 and platelets >50,000 for the biopsies, and 38% were kidney and 24% were liver. These estimates can help gauge risk-benefit ratios in patients undergoing radiologically guided core biopsies (abstract).
