Many readmissions after AMI not related

In this population based study of >3,000 patients admitted with incident AMI, 19% were readmitted within 30 days, but only 43% of the readmissions were related to the AMI. Ongoing efforts to categorize and reduce readmission rates are needed, as over half in this study were unrelated to the incident admission (abstract).
